Wow – what a difference two days of sunshine makes!
While the kidlet slept (and still sleeps), I did a quick recreational nosey in the patch and am really pleased to see that the rain hasn’t dampened off all of my produce.
There are two decent sized zucchini growing (finally!); the string beans are cropping well; the borlotto fire tongue beans are purply-speckled, although not as vivid as their picture in the catalogue yet; and I managed to sneak a little handful of alpine strawberries to snack on – but have left some for the kidlet to pick when he wakes up.
Every night I’ve been able to incorporate something from the garden into our dinner: from a handful of peas or herbs, to a smattering of potatoes, or freshly picked and steamed beans.
I wouldn’t say we are overwhelmed with produce, but there’s enough to get by, and the taste of freshly picked/dug veges is divine. The kidlet even ate silverbeet in a casserole last night. I’m tempted to write that in his Plunket book, as it is no mean feat for a three-year-old to willingly eat something green!
