Game on

Recently, a little bird told me that a certain Chief Technical Officer at Xero (the world’s greatest online accounting system), prides himself on being a bit of a jam maker – raspberry jam being his forte.

Two days ago, Skruff took a bottle of our finest damson plum jam to work. He left it on @storminwalker’s desk, along with a wee note suggesting it would blow his raspberry jam out of the stratosphere.

Last night I decided to further demonstrate my jam-making prowess, and unleashed a flame war on twitter. Skruff joined in too:

The great Xero jam challenge has been issued and accepted. Sample and weep boys (and girls), sample and weep. #IAMTHEDAMSONQUEEN

It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a jar of jam, it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses… #damsonjamkicksass

I’ve been waiting for you @storminwalker. The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner. Now I am the master. #damsonjam

The force is with you, young @storminwalker, but you are not a Jam-maker yet. #damsonjam

Following such excellent and witty baiting, we waited for an equally humorous response from @storminwalker. Eventually he replied with:

Great Xero jam off? There is no competition. @jefweg & @charlottehinton can testify that @storminwalker makes some f***en amazing jam

So I further tested the waters:

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde @storminwalker: “I can resist anything but temptation. And @deleifd’s damson jam.” #raspberryschnazberry

Finally, @storminwalker appeared to rise to the challenge:

@deleifd #raspberryschnazberry? Oh it’s on!

So, dear @storminwalker, I henceforth officially throw down the jam gauntlet. I issue you with the great 2010 jam challenge – I forsee an event of some kind, with food stuffs, jam jars, spoons, Wellington’s twitteratti and blindfolds if necessary.

This could be an epic battle of the sexes, the CTO vs the stay-at-home Mother, the boss vs the partner (I can see Skruff turning a whiter shade of pale as I type). Think of it as our parting gesture before you head off to the Big Apple in 2 weeks’ time.

You in?

Excellent, @storminwalker has accepted the challenge! So, the ‘jam off’ is happening at 11.30am, Tuesday 2 March at the wonderful Mojo in the Old Bank Arcade – follow them on @mojooldbank

We also have the stunningly gorgeous Megan, a Radio NZ journalist no less, MC’ing the event.

We promise this will be a fun-filled jam-tasting session. See you there!

I can’t make jam, but can I please apply to be a taster?

Or, if you both give me a sample, I could make something like this: http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/jam-cupcakes-with-chocolate-frosting.

Well, you know I’m a damson fan, but…. the best jam has to be blackcurrant, I’m afraid! My brother-in-law’s blackcurrant jam is truly spectacular.
